Almost there!

In the last few days the children have worked energetically and enthusiastically as they prepare for Exhibition Day. They spent time on Monday discussing their inquiries and their new knowledge with 5.1 and 8th Grade German Native children. Afterwards the class discussed how they could attract people to their exhibition display so that they could talk to them easily. We spent some time looking at displays (see a few ideas on our PYPX blog http://www.fiddi5pypx.blogspot.com/) and discussed how they could make their displays 'eye catching'. They have been measuring, cutting and mounting work to make them attractive to their audience.

"Discussing the displays".

Nearly finished.

In the spirit of collaboration the children have been given the opportunity to talk with other 5th graders who have worked on similar inquiries; they have also been given time to discuss their work in their mother tongue.

As the week has gone by we have constantly referred to the student roles and exhibition criteria as well as to the co constructed assessment criteria. Each exhibition must show new knowledge, the central idea and inquiry questions, German, mother tongue, Maths and children need to be able to talk about what they have learned. They need to write both factually and creatively too (checking and correcting spelling, grammar and punctuation). Please see the PYPX blog for more information: ((http://www.fiddi5pypx.blogspot.com).

Reading and checking our writing with a mentor.

Checking and organising our work.

A key point of the exhibition is the action that they take; as global citizens the children need to show that, having identified an issue that matters to them, they can attempt to do something about it (an action, no matter how small, is still an action).

Finishing off.

(In the midst of all of the work Mrs. Nicholson celebrated her birthday. We were all very glad to stop and enjoy her lactose free, fructose free chocolate cake!)
Happy Birthday Mrs. Nicholson!

We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday at the Exhibition.

Please note that, as you will see from the invitation, the session exclusively for parents/families runs from 8.50am until 10.30am. During that time each group (A, B and C) will present for 30 minutes.  I will send an additional email so that you can be sure when your child is presenting.

You are very welcome to attend the whole session or your child's session only. The later sessions are also open to parents but are not exclusive to parents. Elementary and Senior school students will also visit during the later sessions.

Have a good weekend. See you on Tuesday!
