Life between PYPX and Spring break.

After the excitement of exhibition day we tried to settle back to normal school life in the remaining days before the holidays- not an easy job! The children have reflected on their experiences and self assessed according to the co constructed criteria, transdisciplinary skills and learner profile and attitudes. They have given their completed journals to me and tomorrow I will sit with each child and talk with them about their successes and areas for improvement going forward. 

They have also focussed on Maths. Yesterday we reviewed the four operations in a dice game (recording their equations) and today they have continued with organising their 'bids' for moving boxes.

In the last period today we visited our book buddies in Grade 2.2 to watch their energy experiments and listen to their explanations. The second graders spoke about their central idea and the concepts, as well as describing potential and kinetic energy.  5.3 were in the position of observing, asking questions and giving feedback to the younger children. 2nd graders did very well, explaining their knowledge and understanding in depth. We were all very impressed.

On return to the classroom we discussed what had been learned during our visit to our book buddies. Some of the class said that their memory had been refreshed, while others (in addition to commenting on the quality of the 2nd graders' Science knowledge) commented on how it was good practice for 2nd graders as they move through the school to 5th grade and PYPX. 5.3 also commented on how their experiences in the PYPX will help them to be more confident when talking publicly in future, to be better organised and to focus well on the task in hand.
