In Maths, the children have been working on their 'bids'. Each group has formed into a company. Each company has to list classroom items to be removed, find the total volume of the class dictionaries, the stools, the globes and the hard drives. They also have to work out the number of boxes (of a given size) that will be needed to move all items on their list. The company with the fewest number of boxes will 'win' the bid.
The Maths activity will enable them to practise multiplication (length x breadth x height), build on their understanding of the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, develop their estimation skills and consolidate their accuracy in measurement. They are having plenty of Mathematical conversations at the moment, having to reason and use logic to find solutions.
In our PYPX they are reading and analysing information and writing factual reports as well as writing creatively. They are checking their spelling, punctuation and grammar individually, with peers and with me, so that their published PYPX work is as accurate as can be. ES Sharing Day, in addition to a visit from our book buddies in 2.2, allowed them to practise their presentations and reflect on how they can make adjustments and improvements. They continue to work on their inquiries and develop action ideas, using their co constructed assessment criteria and the student roles (http://www.fiddi5pypx.blogspot.com/) to guide them in the process.
Our classroom atmosphere is always very happy and hardworking. This week the children have been even more focussed and engaged which has made for a very pleasant learning environment, where children work hard, share ideas and support each other in all aspects of their learning. I am very proud of them.
