Communication and learning through data handling and technology.

This line graph shows the number of people in the classroom at certain times in the school day.

The children have learned how to use bar charts, pie charts and line graphs appropriately. They have collected data through surveys, analysed it and represented the data in the various graphs. They have used create-a-graph (http://nces.ed.gov/nceskids/createagraph/) to represent data collected. They have also learned about range, median, mean and mode.


 



This student is plotting data from a different day to compare results.

Each student needed to ensure that the x and y axes were labelled, that the graph had a title and that the graph was accurate.

This shows the graph created on Create-a Graph using data collected about how many people were in the classroom.

The students reflected on what they have been learning in Maths and how it will help them in the future.

The children are also working on a 2 minute 34 second presentation to show how a piece of chosen technology advances communication and learning. They are using a variety of devices to show their understanding and are developing their skills in writing, spelling, punctuation (plus data handling, collaboration, planning, thinking to name just a few more) as they move through the process.

 Using the computer to find information, read, understand and write ideas is a great way of using technology to develop learning.

We are looking forward to the next few days as we move into the culminating part of this unit. The children are working hard and discovering many new things.
