Our last full week before the holidays!

We are now coming to the end of our unit 'Where we are in place and time'. The children have read about and inquired into a chosen technology; they are now preparing presentations or videos to show how their chosen technology can help with communication and learning.  They have written out scripts and information reports to show their understanding and used persuasive writing to explain their points of view, alongside other perspectives. The children and I have worked together to construct the assessment criteria for their videos/presentations.



The children are using this criteria to ensure that their video or presentation contains all the right elements to show their learning.

The criteria asks them to show:

• Knowledge (including making connections from their chosen technology to communication and learning and making links to data)
• Understanding of concepts (including showing peoples' different perspectives)
• Skills (including eye contact, clear speech, spelling and grammar)
• Attitudes (collaborating well with others, showing a depth of knowledge and an ability to reflect on their learning)
• Action: thinking about how the technology might help others; how they might use their knowledge, skills and understanding in the future.

Some children are using Movie maker to edit their videos; others have brought lap tops in from home and are using their own movie programmes; others are using Prezi or Kerpoof to show their learning. The children will practice their presentations on Thursday and/or Friday but will present their videos/ presentations to each other on Monday 20th December. We are looking forward to it. (They will bring copies of their video/presentations home early next year to share with you). The children will spend time on Monday reflecting on what they have learned and thinking about how they can use their knowledge, skills and understanding in the future.

In Maths, we are focussing on Probability. We have revised impossible (0%), certain (100%), likely (75%), unlikely (25%) and equal chance (50%) and plotted them on a Probability line, using percentages. The children will be using probability to devise a fair game this week.

The children have a busy few days ahead of them!
