German News from the Beginner group

Students have been learning to talk about their families and relatives, which is the topic of chapter four in the Deutschmobil textbook ("Das ist meine Familie"). Together we watched and analyzed a video dialogue of two friends looking at family photos, played games to review family vocabulary and read the book Hast du meine Schwester gesehn? by Joke van Leeuwen. Ask your child about the book and the changes we made in our own versions.

Students chose to show their understanding in different ways. Some students made posters with photographs and spoke about their family members. One student made a comic about a family that meets a monster. Other groups created short original plays about families.

Since the class has been divided, students have easy access to computers in the classroom. We have been spending lots of time on kindernetz.de and clixmix.de. Some students have independently found exciting games by exploring the suggestions from the kid-friendly German search engine blinde Kuh.

Best Regards,
Herr Neas
