Strengths and the Learner Profile

In class we discussed our strengths with regard to those characteristics and attitudes in the Learner Profile. Each student chose one attitude in which they felt particularly strong. In groups they discussed what they thought their strength meant. Each group collaborated to produce a role play that, they felt, best showed their understanding.

Of course we are all: principled, communicators, thinkers, inquirers, knowledgeable, balanced, caring, open-minded, reflective and risk-takers in some way. The activity helped students to make connections between our central idea 'an effective group capitalises on the strengths of its individual members' and themselves as members of the group.

This video shows what Gavin and Max think about the profile 'Thinker'. It is also useful as they demonstrate conceptual understanding that addition, subtraction, division and multiplication are related to each other and can be used to solve problems in a variety of ways.
